PHP & WordPress upgrades

Still on an old PHP version? Let's upgrade it safely.

Older PHP versions no longer get security fixes, so when a flaw like PHP2Shell is found, no patch is coming. We move WordPress sites, WooCommerce stores and custom PHP apps to a supported version, testing everything on a copy first so your live site never breaks.

Signs you need an upgrade

If any of these sound familiar, it's time.

Your host is warning you

01

Emails saying your PHP version is outdated, deprecated or about to be switched off.

WordPress says so

02

Tools → Site Health recommends updating PHP.

PHP 7, 8.0 or 8.1

03

These versions get no security fixes from the PHP project. PHP 8.2 joins them on December 31, 2026.

Plugins that haven't been updated in years and may not run on newer PHP.

Custom code nobody owns

06

How it works

Upgraded on a copy first, switched over when it's proven.

    Audit

We check your PHP version, WordPress, plugins, theme and custom code for compatibility, and tell you what needs fixing before anything changes.

  2. 02

    Staging copy

We build a private copy of your site on the new PHP version, fix deprecated code, replace abandoned plugins and update the theme.

    03

    Test

Forms, checkout, logins, search, integrations and key pages tested on the copy, with you signing off.

    Switch & monitor

We switch the live site over at a quiet time, watch the error logs, and keep a rollback ready just in case.

What we upgrade

WordPress, WooCommerce and custom PHP.

FAQ

Questions we get a lot

Will upgrading PHP break my website?

It can if it's done blind, which is why we upgrade a staging copy first, fix whatever breaks, and test before the live site changes. You keep a rollback option until everything is confirmed.

Which PHP version should I move to?

One that still receives security fixes, currently PHP 8.3 or newer. If you're on PHP 8.2, plan your upgrade now: it stops receiving security fixes on December 31, 2026.

How long does an upgrade take?

Simple WordPress sites often take a few days including testing. Large stores and custom apps take longer; the audit tells you before we start.

What does it cost?

Upgrades are covered for care plan clients. Without a plan, we work on an hourly basis after a quick audit shows what's involved, and we discuss it with you up front.

Can you upgrade a site you didn't build?

Yes. Most of the upgrades we do are for sites someone else built.
